Everything you need to know about upgrading from pebble to boulder.

Upgrading From Pebble to Boulder

PetRock.cloud offers four tiers: Pebble, Cobble, Boulder, and Monolith. This article covers the most common upgrade path, Pebble to Boulder, but the process is identical for any tier change.

Note: SLA percentages refer to dashboard and API availability, not rock activity. Rocks remain inert at all tiers.

How to upgrade

  1. Navigate to Settings → Billing → Plan.
  2. Locate the tier you want and click Select Plan.
  3. Review the change summary, including the prorated charge.
  4. Confirm by clicking Upgrade Now.

The upgrade takes effect immediately. Your dashboard will refresh to reflect new tier capabilities within 60 seconds.

How proration works

When you upgrade mid-cycle, you are charged the prorated difference for the remainder of your current billing period. The formula is:

prorated_charge = (new_tier_price - current_tier_price) * (days_remaining / days_in_period)

For example, upgrading from Pebble ($9/month) to Boulder ($79/month) on day 10 of a 30-day cycle would result in a charge of:

($79 - $9) * (20 / 30) = $46.67

This charge appears on your next invoice as a separate line item labeled Proration: Tier Upgrade.

What changes immediately

  • Rock quota increases. New rocks can be provisioned right away.
  • Audit log retention extends backward, exposing historical entries that were previously trimmed.
  • New regions become available in the Provision Rock dialog.
  • Existing rocks are not migrated automatically. To move a rock to a new region, see Data Residency.

Downgrades

Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period to avoid mid-cycle quota violations. If you have more rocks than the lower tier permits, you must archive the excess before the downgrade can complete.
