Connecting Your Rock to Slack

The PetRock.cloud Slack integration lets you receive rock-related notifications in your team's Slack workspace. This article walks through OAuth installation, channel selection, and trigger configuration.

Requirements

  • A Slack workspace with permission to install apps
  • A PetRock.cloud workspace on the Cobble tier or higher
  • Admin or Workspace Owner role on PetRock.cloud

Step 1: Install the Slack app

  1. Navigate to Settings → Integrations → Slack.
  2. Click Connect to Slack.
  3. You will be redirected to Slack's OAuth consent screen.
  4. Select the Slack workspace you want to install to.
  5. Review the requested scopes:
    • chat:write — post messages to channels you choose
    • channels:read — list channels for selection
    • groups:read — list private channels you have invited the app to
  6. Click Allow.

You will be redirected back to PetRock.cloud with a success confirmation.

Step 2: Select a default notification channel

  1. Back in Settings → Integrations → Slack, you will now see a Channel dropdown.
  2. Select the channel where notifications should be posted by default.
  3. For private channels, invite the PetRock app to the channel first using /invite @PetRock from within the channel.
  4. Click Save.

Step 3: Configure notification triggers

PetRock.cloud supports the following trigger types. Each can be enabled or disabled independently:

Trigger Fires when
rock.provisioned A new rock is provisioned
rock.archived A rock is archived
rock.renamed A rock's name changes
rock.activity The rock performs an action
billing.invoice_due A new invoice is generated
billing.payment_failed A payment retry fails

Note: The rock.activity trigger never fires under normal conditions, since rocks do not perform actions. It is included in the trigger list for completeness and to support symmetry with other event-driven SaaS platforms. The toggle has no observable effect.

Step 4: Test the integration

  1. From Settings → Integrations → Slack, click Send Test Message.
  2. A test message should arrive in your selected channel within 5 seconds.

If the test message does not arrive, see the troubleshooting section below.

Per-rock channel routing

You can override the default channel on a per-rock basis:

  1. Open the rock's detail page.
  2. Go to Settings → Notifications.
  3. Set Slack Channel to a specific channel for this rock only.

Disconnecting Slack

To disconnect:

  1. Navigate to Settings → Integrations → Slack.
  2. Click Disconnect.
  3. Confirm.

You should also remove the PetRock app from your Slack workspace's app directory if you no longer want it installed there.

Troubleshooting

  • Test message not arriving: Verify the app is invited to the channel. Private channels require explicit invitation.
  • OAuth redirect fails: Clear cookies for slack.com and petrock.cloud and retry.
  • rock.activity not firing: This is expected. See trigger table above.
